Back on March 29th, 2025, Soh Young Lee-Segredo and her husband, Gus Segredo happily attended Flushing Town Hall's Art Community Town Hall at the Queens Museum located in Flushing Meadow Park. Approximately 50 artists gathered to participate in open discussions and collaborative activities to share their experiences and brainstorm ideas for ways to further support cultural initiatives in Queens. https://www.flushingtownhall.org/arts-community-town-hall-corona

As part of the brainstorming, it was suggested that the group review the many art organizations in Brooklyn to see what they were producing as possible inspiration for the Queens group. A partial compiled list of these were:

     Brooklyn Creative Reuse - https://brooklyncreativereuse.org/

  • Brooklyn Creative Reuse is dedicated to fostering creativity and sustainability through collaboration and community building. We aim to empower locals, artists, and local businesses to create and innovate while promoting arts education and recycling in the arts and culture industry.

·         Powerhouse Arts - https://powerhousearts.org/

  • Powerhouse Arts is housed in a purpose-built facility in Gowanus, Brooklyn, on Lenape land. We host an extended network of art and fabrication professionals and educators who work together to co-create and share artistic practices vital to the wellbeing of artists and their communities.

It was also suggested by Gus Segredo that we as a group investigate the production of a 3 to 5 minute video showcasing the many aspects of our borough. From its incredible national/ethnic diversity, to the same in terms of art, food, sports, and politics, as well as, the borough's population of 2.33 million.

In 2008, the National Geographic's Genographic Project, conducted a study aimed at tracing human migrations, they visited Astoria, New York, collecting DNA samples from residents to map human ancestry, with a focus on the diverse community on 30th Avenue. They discovered genetic markers for virtually all major migrations that peopled the continents.
