Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award

The Multicultural Council of NY, founded in 2012, has been a bridge between diverse communities, fostering understanding and appreciation for various arts, education, and cultural expressions. With its roots in Italian, African, Cuban, and Korean cultures, the council has expanded its reach to include a wide range of ethnicities, including Indian, Thai, Greek, Jewish, Puerto Rican, African American, and more.

Under the leadership of founding president Soh Young Lee-Segredo, the council has organized numerous events, such as celebrating Korean Independence Day at the Queens Public Library, the Indian Consulate, and the Korean American Association of Great New York. Lee-Segredo's dedication to community service is evident in her volunteer work with organizations like the Shanti Fund and her collaboration with community leaders like Dr. Umma, Kwang Suk Kim, Jaebong Yu, and Arvind Vora.

On October 26, 2024, the Multicultural Council of NY hosted the first Unity of Voice event, a testament to its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. This event was a collaboration with You're Our Unity talk show host Leshawn Walker, who shares the council's vision of a united and diverse community.

During the event, Lee-Segredo was honored with the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award from the Anna House Foundation. She was the first Asian recipient of this award, which recognizes her significant contributions to community service and social justice.

In addition to receiving this prestigious award, Lee-Segredo used the platform to recognize and honor others who have made a positive impact on the community. She acknowledged Kwang Ryul Cho, an 80-year-old volunteer columnist for the Korea Times, and Jiyu Kim, an 18-year-old volunteer with the Esther Ha Foundation.

By celebrating diversity, fostering unity, and recognizing the contributions of individuals from all walks of life, the Multicultural Council of NY continues to inspire and empower communities.

Well deserved recognition. Congratulations to Soh Young. We have been working for so many years in solidarity for the same causes we both share and we hope to continue on the same path.
